Best Methods For Treating Acne Scarring – Various Ways You Can Treat Scarring From Previous Bouts With Acne

If you have some marks on your face which are difficult to get rid of, then this article might help you out with some good ways you can go about trying to treat your ugly marks. Here are 6 of the best methods for treating acne scarring from previous acne bouts:

1- If you have serious scarring from previous bouts with acne, there are some things you can do. One form of treatment is laser resurfacing, which can be done in the doctor’s or dermatologist’s office. The laser removes the damaged top layer of skin and tightens the middle layer, leaving skin smoother. This can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour. The doctor will try to lessen any pain by first numbing the skin with local anesthesia. It usually takes between 3 and 10 days for the skin to heal completely.

2- Another best method for treating acne scarring is dermabrasion, which uses a rotating wire brush or spinning diamond instrument to wear down the surface of the skin. As the skin heals, a new, smoother layer replaces the abraded skin. It may take a bit longer for skin to heal using dermabrasion — usually between 10 days and 3 weeks.

3- The newest form of treatment for acne scarring is called fractional laser therapy. This type of treatment works at a deeper level than laser resurfacing or dermabrasion, because fractional laser therapy doesn’t wound the top layer of tissue, healing time is shorter. Fractional laser therapy is quite costly, and it’s not usually covered by insurance.

4- A person’s acne will need to be under control before having any of these treatments. If not, even the best methods for treating acne scars won’t be of any help to you. Depending on the severity of the acne scars, the doctor or dermatologist may also suggest a chemical peel or microdermabrasion to help improve the appearance of scarred areas. These milder treatments can be done right in the office.

5- Sometimes doctors inject material under the scar to raise it to the level of normal skin. Finally, in some cases, a doctor may recommend surgery to remove deeply indented scars. One thing you shouldn’t do to deal with acne scars is load up your face with masks or fancy lotions — these won’t help and may irritate your skin further, making the scars red and even more noticeable.

6- On the next page, you’ll discover a book that will teach you how to completely get rid of all your scars. The above suggestions might work in treating your scars, but what helped me the most in removing all my old unattractive scars were the secret strategies I learned from this Scar Removal Book: the scar solution.

This guide has some exciting and unique natural scar removal techniques that worked like a charm on my scars! I have recommended this guide to so many people and they all ended up clearing their scars just few months after following the recommendations in it.

How to Treat Facial Redness and Red Blotches [DermTV.com Epi #50]

Via www.dermtv.com – Facial redness and red facial blotches (eg, broken capillaries) are a common skincare issue. While many products claim to remove them, there is only one real cure. Dr. Schultz will explain why available products aren’t suitable and what procedure is. Transcript People with red blotches or broken blood vessels on their face are frustrated by their inability to find effective skin care products to help them with their problem. Here are the treatment choices: First and easiest is make-up. Green tinted foundation most effectively helps hide the red because green is opposite red in the color wheel (ie, they neutralize each other). Second are caffeine-containing products that are advertised to help reduce the size of blood vessels. If you constrict the blood vessels you will squeeze some blood out and there will be less red in the skin. The reality, though, is caffeine containing products usually work better to relieve the signs of Rosacea because of their anti-inflammatory powers than they do to really get the red out of your skin. Next are topical cortisone products which constrict the blood vessels very well and get the red out very effectively. However, the problem is you can not use them on an on-going basis. If you use them for too long after they have temporarily helped the redness, they will actually break the capillaries, cause more redness and thin the skin. So this isn’t an option. Lastly and the only thing that really works is laser treatments

How to treat pimles, acne, & breakouts with PURE aloe vera gel for flawless skin!!!

I have been extracting and applying real, pure aloe vera gel from the aloe vera plant every other week for the past month or so, and the results? Well, I have not needed to wear any foundation or concealer for the past week!!! My skin has been breakout-free and smooth as a baby’s butt recently! However, I don’t know what I’m gonna do when I run out of leaves, because no new leaves have grown from the cut off parts!!! Maybe I gotta buy a new plant everytime I have used up all the leaves? We’ll see… If it gets too pricey, I’ll just have to switch back to drugstore aloe vera gel :( Remember, folks: keep it refrigerated, avoid exposing it to sunlight, and try to use it all up in the following days (as its potency decreases with time)!!!

Acne Scars – How To Treat Them

Acne Scars – How To Treat Them

Most people escape the problem of acne scars as they grow up, however, some people bear the scars of their teenage acne for many years. These unsightly marks and imperfections can lead to low self-esteem and a lack of confidence that can last a lifetime.

So what can be done about acne scars?

The first and best way to deal with acne scars is to avoid them, because once acne causes scarring, it is extremely hard to shift.

So whenever you have a breakout of acne it’s essential to get proper treatment as soon as it appears. There’s a whole range of highly effective acne medicine on the market these days, it’s just a case of experimenting with different treatments until you find the right one for your skin. Beyond that, it’s important to resist the temptation to squeeze or pop your acne pimples. Applying pressure to the inflamed area can cause extra damage to your skin, making the acne scarring worse.

However, I realise that won’t help you much if you’ve already got acne scars, so here are the best ways to deal with acne scars that have already formed.

But at this point, it’s important to bear in mind the difference between acne scars and acne stains on the skin. Unlike scarring, skin that has been stained or discolored by acne will slowly fade over time. In some cases these acne stains will disappear completely.

There are two main types of acne scar; the keloid scar and the “ice pick” scar.

Keloid scars are caused by the build up of collagen when the skin tries to heal itself, resulting in a raised area of scarring. In comparison, an “ice pick” scar is a depressed area of skin that looks as though it could have been caused by an ice pick, hence the name.

There are a number of different treatment options for acne scars, including; laser resurfacing, chemical peels, dermabrasion, augmentation etc. However these treatments are complex, costly and the end result may not look the same as unaffected skin.

Dermabrasion: This technique involves the surgical scraping of the skin to create a new smooth surface. It works well on shallow acne scars and costs perhaps 00 per treatment.

Laser Removal: This expensive treatment uses a laser to remove the damaged layers of skin. Studies have shown encouraging levels of improvement after laser treatment for acne scars, with an average improvement of 50% to 75% in 90% of cases after three treatments.

However, the main drawback is the cost of this procedure. Depending upon the size of area affected and the number of treatments required it could cost anything from 0 to 00, with the average cost being in the region of 00.

Chemical Peels: This treatment is less expensive than either dermabrasion or laser resurfacing at approximately 0 per treatment. However, this technique is less effective that either of these alternatives and can only be used on minor acne scars.

Augmentation: This treatment relies upon injecting collagen or the patient’s own fat into the area of scarring until it is level with the skin of the surrounding area. However, this is a costly treatment and it’s not permanent as the body will get rid of the injected substance over time. And due to the nature of the treatment it’s only suitable for depressed areas of scarring and not keloid scars.

Punch Techniques: This technique involves using a biopsy tool to remove the area of scarring and then stitching the area. The aim is to replace a scar with a smaller scar which will respond better to further treatments such as dermabrasion.

How to Treat Acne Scars

How to Treat Acne Scars

Acne is a skin condition which is common across the globe. Scars from acne can seem like double punishment. Acne occurs most often on the face. However it also appears many a times on the chest and the back. There are different kinds of acne scarring: ice pick scarring, atrophic scarring, and hypertrophic scarring. Ice pick scars are deep pitted scars with steep edges. Atrophic scars are pitted but have smooth borders and are not as deep. Hypertrophic scar, more common on the back and chest, are thick lumpy scars that sit above the surface of the skin. Hypertrophic scars – Thickened, or keloid scars. Asians have a lower risk of hyperpigmentation than African Americans, but higher risk than Caucasian patients.

The risk of hypertrophic and keloidal scars is 5-15 times higher in african american patients and 3-5 times higher in patients of Asian descent. In the simplest terms, scars form at the site of an injury to tissue. Two types of true scars exist, as discussed later. First is depressed areas such as ice-pick scars, and Second is raised thickened tissue such as keloids. Most serious scarring is caused by the more severe forms of acne, with nodules more likely to leave permanent scars than other types of acne. The best way to deal with acne is to get treatment soon after the acne appears to prevent further severe acne and more scarring. Chemical peels can improve small, depressed scars and some larger scars. Peeling may also be effective in treating any remaining acne by removing comedones.

Motorized dermabrasion is a medium-deep or deep procedure and employs the use of a motorized brush or diamond cylinder. Laser treatment of acne scars is a newer technology but one that can be very effective in selected patients. Wearing a good sunscreen is important. Using tretinoin (Retin-A, Renova, Avita) speeds up the skin’s remodeling process and helps heal post-inflammatory changes. Appropriate formulations of Alpha-Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) and Beta-Hydroxy Acid (BHA) that contain the correct concentrations and are at the appropriate pH also help the skin’s remodeling process. Injection of steroids directly into keloid scars can sometimes result in acne scar treatment / improvement. Picking at scabs should be avoided at all costs.

Acne Scars Tratment Tips

1. Wearing a good sunscreen is useful against scars.

2. Wash your face twice a day in warm salty water.

3. Punch grafts are small skin grafts used to replace scarred skin.

4. Laser resurfacing may be used to minimize wrinkles and fine scars.

5. Ice down the acne before bed, by morning it should be noticeably better.

6. Dermabrasion may be used to minimize small scars, minor skin surface irregularities.

7. Chemical peels are often used to minimize sun-damaged skin, irregular pigment, and superficial scars.

8. Using medcine tretinoin speeds up the skin’s remodeling process and helps heal post-inflammatory changes.

9. Use cucumber juice or fresh cucumber paste as a face mask.

10. Egg whites are a cheap yet effective way of how to treat acne scar.

Have You Considered Fraxel Laser To Treat Acne Scars?

Have You Considered Fraxel Laser To Treat Acne Scars?

Consider that the skin of the face is just like your bed at home. The top layer of the skin is like the doona, the middle layer’s the mattress and the lower layer is like the bed base. As we tend to get older, one or even all 3 of these layers become prone to the aging process and start to look worn and dreary.

As we age the top layer of our skin becomes more bulky and the skin loses its elasticity. As we age the collagen in our skin which is likened to the springs in a mattress gradually unwinds and our skin loses that natural elasticity that it once had before the aging process began.

The Fraxel laser treatment reverses this process in collagen returning it to its previous natural resilience and elasticity. Not only does it just reverse the effects of the collagen it also stimulates the natural growth of more collagen meaning that even after months of the surgery taking place, new collagen continues to grow and your skin continues to gradually become better than it once was.

Until Fraxel, doctors used traditional lasers to cure facial scars and acne scars which potentially lead the patient to a long healing time and increased risk of complications. Unlike other known lasers such as ablative lasers, the Fraxel is unique. The Fraxel laser is Non-Ablative laser and therefore has few side-effects and has almost no healing time. Involving a series of five treatments over 5 months to achieve results, the Fraxel laser combines the impact of Ablative lasers with the gentleness of Non-Ablative lasers.

Pigmentation of the face has never been treated so effectively until now. The Fraxel Dual with its double wavelength laser system seeks our pigment cells and gently removes them leaving a clearer skin than ever before. Fraxel Dual…the most effective technology yet to combat the signs of aging. If you would like to know more about Fraxel laser treatment do not hesitate in contacting your cosmetic doctor to discuss the possibilities which could lead to a better life for you.

Dr Michael Molton provides Fraxel laser treatment at Epiclinic in Adelaide. For more information please visit http://www.fraxel-laser-treatment-adelaide.com.au

How to Prevent and Treat Acne Scars

How to Prevent and Treat Acne Scars

Acne sufferers face more than one concern. There is of course the constant nuisance of the acne itself. There is also the anxiety caused by the acne scars and lesions which will render the skin an aesthetic disaster. The reason for this is that most people believe that acne is a temporary situation whereas you are stuck with acne scars for the rest of your life.

Undoubtedly there are numerous acne scar treatments in the market today which work quite well. But the downside is there are some types of acne whose scars cannot be eliminated because they run too deep. Therefore you must ensure that no scars form in the first place because you wouldn’t want to take on the emotional and financial burden of dealing with permanent scars.

What we will be discussing here are the many forms of acne scars which exist, the ways to treat them and last but not least, how to prevent them by tackling the internal causes of the condition.
Types of Acne Scars, their causes and their diagnosis

Studies show that severe acne which develops in the deeper layers of the dermis, causing nodules and cysts to form, is what mostly causes acne scars. There are other causes also like infection, cystic acne which works its way deep into the dermis and an overgrowth of skin tissues. Squeezing or popping acne can also cause scars.

It has been seen that, no matter what type of acne they have contracted, some people are more prone to get scarred than others. And occasions arise where the body itself makes a mess of its wound healing process: whether in the process of formation of new capillaries or by improper collagen deposit or in its response to the swelling or anabolic and catabolic phases; errors in any of these healing equations could lead to scarring.

Whatever may be the causes, to avert the possibility of permanent scarring, start treating your acne scars as soon as you can.

Acne scars can be of two varieties: those which come about because of skin tissue loss and those which form because of an increase in skin tissue formation.

Formation of scars because of skin tissue increase

The acne scars which form because of increased skin tissue are usually Keloids scars. Keloids scars, which tend to strike people with dark complexions, emerge when excessive collagen is produced by cells during the healing process. These scars tend to be irregularly shaped and firm and are usually smooth.

Acne scars which emerge due to skin tissue loss:

Acne spots: a discoloration of the skin to brown or red characterizes these acne scars. Acne spots usually fade away with time or with the help of topical scar treatments. Similarly, post inflammatory hyper pigmentation, which often follows acne breakouts, fades away naturally, but to quicken the process you should try MSM.

Ice-pick lesions: the name says it all. Such acne scars resemble ice on which repeated cuts have been made with an ice pick. They usually appear on the cheeks. The scars can be either deep or superficial and are more difficult to get rid of than discoloration scars.

Depressed fibrotic scarring: deep nodules leave behind this type of acne scars. They are white and rigid and are characterized by sharp margins and steep sides.

Atrophic scar macules: Acne scars of this type are small and white and are generally soft and distensible.

Boxcar scars, characterized by vertical edges and round indentations and rolling acne scars which are the result of the surface of the skin getting stuck to the subcutaneous layer are other types of acne scars.

Acne Scars and their treatments

Mostly, acne scars fade away slowly, as do Post inflammatory pigmentations but there are some which resist removal. The only way to smoothen them away is through topical treatment or surgical cosmetic intervention.

Each acne scar needs to be tackled in its special way. There are also scars which require to be treated through a combination of several eradication methods. Very many treatments exist for getting rid of scars and these include: pulsed laser technology, dermabrasion, chemical peels, laser resurfacing, punch techniques, collagen injections and creams.

Collagen injection is a method whereby collagen or fat is injected under the skin. This method is mostly suitable for soft scars, whether they are deep or shallow. However, it has to be kept in mind that this is a short term solution and these injections have to be administered every 6 months. Moreover, collagen injections produce some unpleasant side effects and allergic reactions may also develop.

Microdermabrasion is a scar treatment in which tiny particles are passed through a vacuum tool. The intention is to scrape the external top layer of the skin. The method stimulates and enhances the growth of new cells but is only effective in cases of mild scarring.

Laser resurfacing is a method by which the skin layer is flattened and resurfaced with the help of laser. This is done so that scars become more even with the surface of the skin and are therefore less noticeable. It has been found that newly formed acne scars respond better to laser treatment than do the old ones. However, this process can cause disagreeable side effects such as infection and an unusual reddening of the skin. At times, it can even aggravate the scars.

Punch grafting is a technique which involves the slicing of the acne scar right down to the layer of fat and then stitching it up by using a small skin graft.

Different types of scars have to be treated differently. Let us tell you about the recommended treatments in respect of the various types of acne scars. Alpha lipoic acid acne cream and MSM are excellent for use on post hyper pigmentation marks. Laser resurfacing or dermabrasion are the recommended treatments for ice pick scars. However, these scars do not respond positively to Collagen injections which should only be used on flat or thin scars. The Keloids acne scars can be smoothened with steroid injections, crytotherapy, silicone gel dressing and with pulsed laser treatment combined with carbon dioxide laser vaporization (where there is not too much thickness or too much redness on the keloid scars).

Acne Scar prevention

In the final analysis of course, the cheapest and best way of getting out of the nuisance factor of dealing with acne scars is to rid yourself of the acne condition. And the only sure and permanent way of curing your acne is by putting in place methods which would redress the internal cause of your acne. Conventional medications, topical or over the counter acne treatments or steroids really don’t help.

When you are able to correct the deep rooted internal factors that really are the cause of your acne formation, you will automatically be free of any acne scarring and also free of the never ending expenses that you incur in taking treatment for its removal.

You must understand that although acne develops on the surface of the skin, as do the scars that appear as a result of the acne, acne is not a skin problem. It forms because of flaws in your internal balance deep inside. Acne and consequently acne scarring are both caused by problems which are wholly internal.

You yourself can do away with the acne scars and do this even before they form by going to the root of the problem deep inside you. This way you will stop the very process of acne formation and be able to live your life free of acne and consequently, of acne scars as well. It will give an impetus to your existence as you will not be burdened by the emotional load of having to carry disfiguring scars on your face.

The End Result of Acne Treatments Are Acne Scars: Learn How to Treat Your Acne and Your Scars

The End Result of Acne Treatments Are Acne Scars: Learn How to Treat Your Acne and Your Scars

There are many forms of acne treatments and they vary depending on the severity of your acne. The first stage of acne is called mild acne and it is characterized by about three dozen comedones or blackheads and scattered papules which are small pimples without the pus. You won’t be able to notice some of the symptoms unless you take a closer look. Acne treatments recommended by dermatologists for this acne stage include washing the affected areas twice a day with a mild cleanser and applying topical oil free, non-comedogenic, and non-acnegenic gels, solutions, creams, and lotions.

The second stage is the moderate acne and it is characterized by inflamed red lesions, numerous comedones or blackheads, as well as numerous pustules which are pimples filled with pus. Acne treatments recommended by dermatologists include prescription oral drugs such as minocyline, tetracyline, doxycyline, erythromycin, ibuprofen, and isotretinion. These acne treatments can also be partnered with application of topical medications and other anti-acne products.

Severe acne is the worst stage among the three because it is characterized with numerous blackheads, large pus-filled pustules, highly inflamed lesions, cystic acne, and large interconnected nodules that are very painful. This skin condition should be treated immediately to avoid further complications. The acne treatments recommended will be combinations of oral medications such as anti-inflammatory and antibiotics. Topical anti-acne products will no longer be as effective to severe acne cases. You should bear in mind that oral medication is the only effective means of treatment for this severe acne stage.

Our problems regarding our skin don’t stop when the acne is treated. It’s just the beginning of a new chapter in our fight against the remains of acne, the acne scars. There are typically two kinds of acne scars, one is the hypertrophic scars and the other one is the deep craters on the skin surface.

Hypertrophic scars are sometimes called keloids and they are characterized by their thick elevation above the normal skin surface. The craters on the skin surface come in three shapes, the ice-pick, box-car, and the rolling scar. Ice-pick acne scars are the most common and they’re shaped like deep pits in the skin. Box-car acne scars are somewhat similar to the chicken pox scars and they may either run deep within or just superficial on the skin surface. The rolling acne scars are not as deep as the other crater acne scars and they just form a wave-like appearance on the skin.

There are many acne treatments for removing scars. You can use commercially prepared exfoliating products to peel off the skin surface and reveal the fresher skin underneath. However, if your scars really run deep, you might need to undergo a dermatologist’s acne scar treatments. You can choose from punch techniques, laser resurfacing or laser treatment, dermabrasion, and chemical peeling.

The punch techniques aim to join together the loopholes of your skin by scarring your face once more. This is a painful process that needs a longer time period to heal but it is very effective in acne scar craters. Laser resurfacing, dermabrasion, and chemical peeling methods aim to remove the skin surface that manifests the acne scars using different materials and technology. However, these are not one-time treatments because you will need to undergo several sessions in order to achieve the desired results.
