Fraxel? for Acne Scars
Fraxel? for Acne Scars
Scarring and discoloration from acne can be an embarrassing problem, even after success in clearing up the original acne problem. Over the years, cosmetic surgeons have developed various successful treatments for minimizing the appearance of acne scars. One of the newest, most advanced techniques is the use of the Fraxel™ laser system to remove damaged skin tissue while protecting and rejuvenating healthy skin.
Acne Scars – Causes and Treatment
When acne damages the skin severely, scar tissue can develop that changes the texture and appearance of your skin. Even after the pimple goes away, dead skin cells, oils, and bacteria can persist in the pores and hair follicles, leading to more permanent damage and scarring. As anyone with visible acne scars knows, the problem can have a negative impact on your appearance and self-esteem.
There are treatment options, however, that can dramatically reduce the appearance of acne scars as well as surgical and other scar tissue. The more traditional techniques—topical treatment, surface abrasion, surgery, etc.—may produce only moderate improvement or else damage healthy tissue around the scarred area. Several of these treatments also require significant recovery time.
Fraxel™ laser treatment for acne scars is a quick, relatively painless treatment for acne scars the produces excellent results with minimal downtime needed after the procedure. Because the laser system is so precise and targeted, you can expect dramatic improvement in the appearance of acne scars with a bare minimum of damage to healthy skin.
Fraxel™ Laser Treatment and Recovery
The focused, finely tuned laser light used by the Fraxel™ system is specifically targeted by a robotic guidance system that allows the surgeon to pinpoint the exact spots to be treated. Fraxel™ acne scar treatment is available as an outpatient procedure that takes less than an hour, and most patients can expect to resume normal activities within 24 hours. There may be some minor side effects, such as swelling, but these should dissipate quickly.
The Fraxel™ acne scar treatment works by vaporizing microscopic spots of damaged or scarred tissue with pinpoint accuracy, leaving the healthy cells beneath and around the area stimulated. The cells left behind then are rejuvenated and stimulated to produce more youthful collagen and smooth, healthy new skin.
Results are immediate, and the improvement continues even after the treatment. Most patients schedule three to four sessions a couple weeks apart for maximum benefits, but your board certified plastic surgeon will work with you to develop a Fraxel™ acne scar treatment plan that addresses your specific needs.

Have You Considered Fraxel Laser To Treat Acne Scars?
Have You Considered Fraxel Laser To Treat Acne Scars?
Consider that the skin of the face is just like your bed at home. The top layer of the skin is like the doona, the middle layer’s the mattress and the lower layer is like the bed base. As we tend to get older, one or even all 3 of these layers become prone to the aging process and start to look worn and dreary.
As we age the top layer of our skin becomes more bulky and the skin loses its elasticity. As we age the collagen in our skin which is likened to the springs in a mattress gradually unwinds and our skin loses that natural elasticity that it once had before the aging process began.
The Fraxel laser treatment reverses this process in collagen returning it to its previous natural resilience and elasticity. Not only does it just reverse the effects of the collagen it also stimulates the natural growth of more collagen meaning that even after months of the surgery taking place, new collagen continues to grow and your skin continues to gradually become better than it once was.
Until Fraxel, doctors used traditional lasers to cure facial scars and acne scars which potentially lead the patient to a long healing time and increased risk of complications. Unlike other known lasers such as ablative lasers, the Fraxel is unique. The Fraxel laser is Non-Ablative laser and therefore has few side-effects and has almost no healing time. Involving a series of five treatments over 5 months to achieve results, the Fraxel laser combines the impact of Ablative lasers with the gentleness of Non-Ablative lasers.
Pigmentation of the face has never been treated so effectively until now. The Fraxel Dual with its double wavelength laser system seeks our pigment cells and gently removes them leaving a clearer skin than ever before. Fraxel Dual…the most effective technology yet to combat the signs of aging. If you would like to know more about Fraxel laser treatment do not hesitate in contacting your cosmetic doctor to discuss the possibilities which could lead to a better life for you.

South Shore Skin Center Announces Fraxel Laser Treatments for Acne Scarring
South Shore Skin Center Announces Fraxel Laser Treatments for Acne Scarring
DATELINE: COHASSET AND PLYMOUTH, MASS…
Fraxel re:pair laser technology has been found to be a safer and more effective treatment for reducing the appearance of acne scarring than traditional CO2 lasers. South Shore Skin Center is now offering Fraxel re:pair laser treatments to patients with moderate to severe acne scarring.
Previously, ablative CO2 laser resurfacing was used to treat acne scarring, but the risk of side effects included changes in skin pigmentation; infection; edema; red patches and significant recovery time. With the Fraxel re:pair laser, healing is rapid and recovery time is drastically reduced. The side effects with Fraxel re:pair are minimal and include mild dryness and mild fluid retention.
Fraxel re:pair laser uses the technology of a fractionated laser beam to ablate the tissue deep within the dermis to improve the skin’s appearance by stimulating the body’s natural production of new collagen and skin cells. Patients can obtain results with far less down time than with traditional CO2 lasers.
In a recent study published in Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, patients with acne scarring were given two to three full-face Fraxel re:pair treatments over a period of three months. The study showed that the majority of these patients experienced minimal side effects and were highly satisfied with the outcome of the their treatments.
Dr. Richard Eisen, a board certified dermatologist at South Shore Skin Center and a leading expert in Fraxel re:pair and Fraxel re:store laser systems explained, “Fraxel re:pair is an ideal treatment for acne scarring because it enables deeper penetration into the layers of the skin to erase acne scarring. Fraxel re:pair is safer and more effective than traditional lasers. Patients will begin to see results after the first treatment.”
Fraxel re:pair and re:store laser treatments have been approved by the FDA to treat a variety of cosmetic conditions. South Shore Skin Center is the only provider in the area offering the advanced technology of Fraxel re:pair and Fraxel re:store laser treatments. To schedule a consultation, contact South Shore Skin Center’s Cohasset (781) 383-3340 or Plymouth office (508) 747-0711.
Treating Acne
Acne is caused by overproduction of sebum (oil), which is regulated by hormones, coupled with the obstruction of the pores. People can get acne at any age, but teens are most likely to experience it because it is triggered by hormone changes. While most acne sufferers’ breakouts are not serious and do not result in scarring, at least 40 percent of all cases need to be treated by a physician.
“Acne scarring is most often caused by cystic acne, a severe form of acne. Severe acne is hereditary,” noted Dr. Eisen.
For severe acne that may potentially result in scarring, South Shore Skin Center offers several types of treatment to control it including: Gentle YAG, which is a gentle, safe and effective type of laser treatment; Photodynamic Therapy which uses a light source in conjunction with chemical therapy; and Thermage, which is a minimally invasive procedure that uses radio frequency.
